Everything you need to build your own "Temple Chair"

Chair making is a very special form of woodworking that requires some special tools and skill. This course is geared towards makers with some exposure or experience with chair making. That said, this is a relatively simple piece that should be attainable to makers of all levels. For a solid introduction to chair making, we suggest the "Foundation in Chairmaking" course Peter created. It is currently available at Vimeo On Demand (soon to be moved to this site)

All of the instructional materials are provided. As for the wood, you can use green wood or all kiln dried wood depending on your access and interest.

For this chair, you will need a basic set of chairmaking tools for shaving, carving and drilling. While not absolutely required, a lathe is a helpful tool, but all the parts can be shaved to shape and size. Here are a list of helpful handtools

1. Drawknive
2. Spokeshave
3. Scraper
4. Gouge (#3 sweep 7-12mm)
5. Travisher (either a scorp or travisher will suffice)
6. Scorp
7. Reamer
8. Steamer (for bending parts, although they can be sawn)
9. Lathe and basic turning tools
10. Bandsaw (handy but not essential)
11. Basic Chisels and Saws
